The best experiences to try while travelling to Australia

by Arpita 3rd December 2019

It’s a country that offers year-round sunshine, endless sandy beaches and an enviable laid-back lifestyle – is there any wonder that Australia is one of the top destinations to travel to? With such a huge country to explore, this article is here to point out some of the best experiences Australia has to offer.

Drive along the Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is a 234km drive with astonishing views: from coastal scenery to waterfalls and even rainforests. To get the most out of this road, drivers should take pictures as they go, sunbathe or even catch a wave.

Discover the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef is one of planet Earth’s most famous natural wonders; a place tourists flock to and a place you can’t leave Australia without seeing for yourself. Did you know the Great Barrier Reef is visible from the moon? It’s also becoming a well-known fact that the reef might not be around for much longer. This is more of a reason to see the reef and spend time learning about how experts are trying to protect it. Diving excursions allow you to see up to 1500 types of fish and 300 types of coral.

Take a sailing trip around the Whitsundays

For those unfamiliar with these islands of wonder, the Whitsundays are a cluster of 74 secluded bays just off the coast of Queensland, not far from the Great Barrier Reef. Tie this destination in with your trip to the reef and you won’t be disappointed. Many experts agree that the best way to see the Whitsundays is to take a sailing trip around the bays – it’s a chance to see spectacular views and get lots of pictures to take home. These cruises are also a great chance to talk to a local and make some new friends!

Visit Kangaroo Island

You might have guessed it from the name, but this island is the renowned home of these cute and fascinating creatures. You’ll find Kangaroo Island just off Adelaide’s coast, a frequent trip made by keen travellers. This island is an incredible place to see kangaroos hop around their natural habitat, and if you’re lucky you could spot a koala too.

See the sunset over Uluru

This landmark rock is known as Uluru by the aboriginal locals, and offers a great chance for travellers to learn more about the history and other cultures. The striking red stone of this rock is a sight to behold on its own, but as the foreground for a hot orange sunset it’s simply unforgettable.

Go sandboarding

Australia might be famous for its crashing waves, but how about mastering the sand? Take a sandboarding lesson and learn how to glide across Victoria, Tasmania or Lancelin’s vast sand dunes. Brave the big hills or hang out on the smaller slopes – whichever you choose you’ll be surprised by how fast and exhilarating this unique pastime can be.

Taste the wine at Swan Valley

Australia is one of the world’s most famous wine-producing countries, and Swan Valley is the oldest wine-producing region in the Perth area. Many of Swan Valley’s vineyards are run by families of Italian and Croatian origin who founded them in the 1920s. There are plenty of tours to take and delicious wines to try.

So there you have it: the best experiences to try if you’re travelling to Australia. Whether you want to immerse yourself in the beauty of the natural world, engage in thrilling adventures, or take a more leisurely stroll through local vineyards, Australia is the place to do it. This list only scratches the surface, of course – there’s so much more to explore, and this fascinating land really needs to be seen in person.
